Spring Rolls – Bean Salad – Banana Icecream – Zucchini pickles
Still playing around with recipes as well as generally in search of the elusive “how do you make that?” things to eat. This wasn’t one of those recipes I didn’t know how to make, but it’s been so long since I’ve done them that it felt like that! Fresh spring rolls (sometimes referred to as “Summer Rolls”) are super easy to make, but do take time. Prep time. Getting things sliced in tiny little match-like objects before going into the roll.
I find the real trick to these rolls is to not over-stuff the middle before you start doing the actual “rolling”. I have this same issue with Burritos. You want to put a lot of the good stuff in there in one go, but then you can’t close the wrap/roll. ::sigh:: Then it seems I have the opposite problem with the sauce – I can never make enough to dip every last thing into it! Even still, it’s a good reminder to visit things you’ve not tried in a while, especially something as fresh as these puppies.
What’s your favourite summer-time food?
I think the game that was a sure-fire hit was Scythe. It’s a 4x game with a short play-time and a good selection of factions to play. It take a little time to set up and to explain to those that haven’t played, but it’s well worth it. I’ve ended up playing it a couple of times in the last week or so and that’s unusual for me as I like to play a few different games during a given week to keep me on my toes, but this one really hooked me. (even though I lost the games I played!)
Every faction seems balanced and each has serious advantages for movement (and other things) if you are clever enough to utilize them to their fullest. On game design, I have to say the production value is great with all the pieces as well as the art work. Very rich – you really feel like they spent the time to massage this one and give the gamer a great experience. I would play if ever offered a spot in another session. (for a more in-depth review of Scythe please check out this nice little write up from Dog and Thimble)
As a special mention for games, I loved playing Tiny EPIC Kingdoms as well. I think it’s the minimalist in me that thinks this is just a great game. All the meeples are small, the individual maps are small and the teeny little castles are ….well, small! It’s also a rich game for content with a plethora of races and classes. Loads of replay-ability here, and not very expensive either. All fitting in a nice, tidy carry-with-you box. Just awesome. And there are a bunch of Tiny little other expansions that come with it too. I can tell this is going to be trouble for my pocket book. 🙂
Got any 4x games you can’t get enough of? Pop me a line and let me know. Apparently I don’t have enough things to obsess over. 🙂
